Pig and Hay - Chapel Street Market, N1

Pig and Hay is hands down the best kept secret on Chapel Market.  When I say secret that's probably a bit of an exaggeration as I've never seen it without half a dozen people queuing at lunch time to get their fill.

The premise is pretty simple; take one large torpedo roll and fill it with meat.  You've got three options all involving delicious slow cooked pork.
One includes stuffing, crackling, and apple sauce.  The next is barbecue with a pretty fantastic homemade sauce, pickle and apple slaw or you can go for a bhan-mi style affair.
My personal favourite is the barbecue but I ask for it without the slaw and steal a bit of the crackling.  The scale of this beast doesn't really come across in the photo but for five pounds I don't think you can get a better value lunch in the area!
The meat is fantastic, the little chunks of crackling add a little porky snap crackle and pop to the whole affair, and the pickle helps cut through the richness.  Do not expect to be able to do any work afterwards as you'll want to slip into a pork coma for at least most of the afternoon.
