Mr Holden’s Manchester Egg is a proper little treat but the spicy
chipotle mayonnaise on the side isn’t the only unusual thing about this Scotch Egg. It's made with panko breadcrumbs, premium sausage meat and Bury
black pudding.
All of which are pretty standard in the in the gourmet scotch egg world but what’s that smell? This is where the Manchester Egg stands alone, like the bastard child of a pub snack tray this one is pickled!

It’s odd at first but the earthy richness of the black
pudding and the porky sausage meat mix compliment the mild acidic edge of the egg really
well. If you are in Manchester you can
find them on Piccadily Market on most Saturdays I think and for £3.50 it’s well
worth trying out soon.
Now if they could only pickle a soft boiled egg it would
be perfect...
Pickled scotch egg - now that's something you don;t come across every day, but i imagine the crunch of the crumb, the soft meaty black pudding and the sharp vinegar would make for a lovely match up. Can you get them in London do you know?
ReplyDeleteNot available in London that I know of sadly!
DeleteI LOVE pickled eggs, and was hankering after these before I'd even got to the bit about the eggs being pickled. I'll have to look them out next time I'm Manc way.
ReplyDeleteNot wanting to sound TOO much like a Yorkshireman, but: Isn't £3.50 for a fancy Scotch Egg a bit steep?
Sorry.
Nah that's about spot on! Worth every penny in my books.
DeletePS You'll always sound Yorkshire :^P
